NRC is a register or can be said record which contains the name of all the genuine citizens of India. It was prepared first after the 1951 census of India. National Register of Citizens (NRC) means the register containing the names of Indian citizens. NRC updation basically means the process of enlisting the names of genuine citizens based on Electoral Rolls upto 1971 and 1951 NRC. In 1971 when East Pakistan (currently known as Bangladesh) separated from Pakistan, there were number of illegal immigrants entered in India (mainly in Assam). This is the reason why Indian Government requires to update NRC Register. It will remove all illegal immigrants from Assam. In 2018 the government released First NRC list. In that list many people claims that the list was wrong. Many people do not find their name in the list even after submitting documents. NRC Assam is going to publish final NRC  list on 31st August 2019 under supervision of the Supreme Court of India.

After sometime government again releases NRC application form so that applicants will get another chance to submit their Claims for the inclusion of their names in the Final NRC. How to Check Your Name in the Final Draft List of NRC Assam 2019

Citizens who applies for correction can check their name whether updated or not updated in the upcoming NRC 2019 list by following below mentioned steps.

  • You can check your name in the list at the following websites.
  • Enter application number at the login portal to check your status.
  • You can also check your status by type ARN and send it to 9765556555. It is sms method to check your status/
  • You can also call these toll-free numbers 15107 (from Assam) or 18003453762 (outside Assam) to check your status.

NRC Assam Complete Draft Procedure

NRC process was started in February 2015 and has been completed earlier. The list was published on the official website –www.nrcassam.nic.in on 30th July 2018. In that list, you can find the Legacy Data of citizens of Assam. But in that list some people claim that they did not get their name in the list even after submitting all documents. Receipt and Clearance of Claims and Objection

If you did not find your name in the final merit list then you can claim for correction. You will have to submit your all documents again after that your name will be added to the list.

Eligibility For NRC Assam Online Application

Only those person will make their name in the final list of NRC who comes under below-mentioned eligibility criteria. With the help of below-mentioned points you will be able to know who are eligible for inclusion.

  • Peoples whose names appear in any of the Electoral Rolls up to 24 March (midnight), 1971.

  • Descendants of the above persons.

  • Persons whose names appear in National Register of Citizens, 1951.

  • Persons who came to Assam on or after 1 January 1966 but before 25 March 1971 and registered themselves in accordance with the rules made by the Central Government with the Foreigners Registration Regional Officer (FRRO) and who have not been declared as illegal migrants or foreigners by the competent authority.

  • People who are original inhabitants of Assam and their children and descendants who are citizens of India provided their citizenship is ascertained beyond a reasonable doubt by the registering authority.

  • ‘D’ voters can apply for inclusion of their names in the updated NRC. However, their names will be finally included only when the appropriate Foreigner Tribunal declares them as non-foreigners.

  • Persons who can provide any one of the documents issued up to midnight of 24 March 1971 as mentioned in the list of documents admissible for citizenship.

  • All Indian Citizens including their children and descendants who have moved to Assam post 24 March 1971 would be eligible for inclusion in the updated NRC on adducing satisfactory proof of residence in any part of the country (outside Assam) as on 24 March 1971.

  • All members of the Tea Tribes shall be covered under ‘Original inhabitants of Assam’ category provided for under Clause 3(3) of the Schedule of The Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.

  • All such original inhabitants shall be included on the basis of proof to the satisfaction of the Registering Authority. On the establishment of the citizenship of such persons beyond a reasonable doubt, their names shall be in the updated NRC.

Documents Required In the Application Process

The citizen who fill application form will require following list of documents along with NRC Assam Online form to prove their genuine citizenship of India.

List A Documents

  • 1951 NRC

  • Electoral Roll(s) up to 24 March (midnight), 1971

  • Land & Tenancy Records

  • Citizenship Certificate

  • Permanent Residential Certificate

  • Refugee Registration Certificate

  • Passport

  • LIC

  • Any Govt. issued License/Certificate

  • Govt. Service/ Employment Certificate

  • Bank/Post Office Accounts

  • Birth Certificate

  • Board/University Educational Certificate

  • Court Records/Processes

Further, the following two documents are also accepted as supporting documents if accompanied by anyone of the documents listed above:

  • Circle Officer/GP Secretary Certificate in respect of married women migrating after marriage (can be of any year before or after 24 March (midnight), 1971).

  • Ration Card issued up to the midnight of 24 March 1971 can be adduced as supporting documents.

List B Documents

  • Birth Certificate

  • Land document

  • Board/University Certificate

  • Bank/LIC/Post Office records

  • Circle Officer/GP Secretary Certificate in case of married women

  • Electoral Roll

  • Any other legally acceptable document

NRC Updation Background

A National Register of Citizens was prepared in 1951 after the conduct of the Census of that particular year. The Register included particulars of all the persons enumerated during that Census. As per statues governing NRC updation that are The Citizenship Act, 1955 and The Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 (As amended by 1. G. S. R. 803(E), dated 9th November, 2009 (with effect from 9/11/2009.) 2. Ministry of Home Affairs (Office of Registrar General, India), Order No. S.O. 596(E), dated 15th March, 2010, published in the Gazette of India, Extra, Part II. No. 504 S.3(ii), dated 16th March, 2010 p.1.) NRC updation process has started in Assam in 2015.

NRC Updation Method

The NRC will be updated as per the provisions of The Citizenship Act, 1955 and The Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 (As amended by 1. G. S. R. 803(E), dated 9th November, 2009 (with effect from 9/11/2009.) 2. Ministry of Home Affairs (Office of Registrar General, India), Order No. S.O. 596(E), dated 15th March, 2010, published in the Gazette of India, Extra, Part II. No. 504 S.3(ii), dated 16th March, 2010 p.1.). As per the two statutes, the eligibility status would be ascertained based on the NRC, 1951, Electoral Rolls upto 1971 and in their absence the admissible documents upto 24th March (midnight) 1971. The updated NRC shall contain names of persons eligible for inclusion in updated NRC by virtue of being original inhabitants of Assam.
